Yobe CP urges police officers to uphold professionalism ahead of 2027 elections

Yobe State Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin urged senior officers to maintain professionalism in their operations as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin.

Jibrin made this appeal during a strategic security meeting held at the Police Headquarters in Damaturu, which included the command’s management team, tactical commanders, and Divisional Police Officers. The meeting aimed to implement strategies discussed at the recent Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO) 2026, held in Imo State.

The Commissioner praised his officers for their professionalism during the recent local government elections in Yobe State and emphasized the need to uphold these standards in the upcoming elections. He reminded officers that all election-related duties must be performed in compliance with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws governing police operations.

In light of the ongoing harvest season, Jibrin expressed concerns regarding recurring farmer-herder conflicts in the state. He instructed Divisional Police Officers to adopt proactive measures, including intelligence-led policing and community engagement, to prevent such disputes from escalating.

Additionally, he cautioned officers to avoid bias and refrain from using excessive force when managing communal conflicts. Jibrin highlighted the importance of clear communication of new operational directives to all subordinate officers to ensure effective implementation.

The meeting concluded with an interactive session where officers shared challenges encountered in the field and received operational guidance aimed at enhancing security service delivery throughout the state.
