Yobe State Chief Judge Swears in Local Government Election Tribunal and Appeal Panel

DAMATURU, Yobe State — Justice Gumna Kashim Kaigama, the Chief Judge of Yobe State, conducted the swearing-in ceremony for the members of the Local Government Election Tribunal and the Appeal Panel on September 26, 2026. The ceremony took place at the High Court of Justice in Damaturu and was attended by the State Grand Khadi and several other High Court judges.

During the event, Justice Kaigama emphasized that the election tribunal holds exclusive authority to address and resolve petitions related to the recently concluded council elections. He further clarified that the appeal tribunal is responsible for hearing and deciding appeals arising from the election tribunal’s decisions.

Justice Kaigama underscored the importance of prioritizing the will of the people when determining election outcomes. He urged the tribunal members to adhere to their oath of office and remain aware of the significant responsibilities they bear.

“The focus should be on what transpired on election day,” he advised, stressing the need for independence, objectivity, and freedom from bias or favoritism.

The chairpersons appointed to the appeal panel include Justice Lawu Lawan for Zone A, Justice U. Z. Mohammed for Zone B, and Justice H. L. L. Musa for Zone C. The election tribunal chairpersons comprise Ahmad Bahuya, Abba Bukar, Yahaya Bako, Mamman Shettima, Yusuf M. Garba, and Salisu Baffa Abubakar.
