2027: We know how to stop Tinubu from getting second term - Momodu

Dele Momodu, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that the party possesses strategies to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the upcoming 2027 general election.
In an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, Momodu emphasized that the opposition is actively working behind the scenes to mount a challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid. However, he refrained from divulging specific details regarding the ADC’s plans, asserting that the party will not make its strategies public.
“I can’t tell you about strategy in public,” Momodu said. “What we know is that there was a time when Tinubu fought for himself to secure a second term as governor of Lagos State. Others are now working very hard behind the scenes as well.”
Despite keeping the ADC’s strategy under wraps, Momodu assured that the party is committed to ensuring Tinubu does not win a second term.
The publisher of Ovation Magazine also raised concerns over the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Tinubu’s administration. He alleged that the president has appointed a disproportionately high number of individuals from the South-West region to the electoral body, which has led to skepticism regarding the likelihood of a fair election in 2027.
“If you ask an average Nigerian today if they trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election, I can tell you that 90 percent of them will say no,” Momodu stated. He further claimed that even some of Tinubu’s supporters lack confidence in the president’s ability to oversee a credible electoral process.
Momodu dismissed notions that Tinubu might refuse to concede defeat if he loses the election, arguing that a strong determination among Nigerians could influence the election’s outcome. “You do not know the determination of Nigerians,” he said. “I’m talking about the ordinary man on the street who cannot imagine Tinubu coming back again.”
The ADC chieftain also alleged that fear has curtailed accountability among governors, judges, and legislators concerning the president. He asserted that some public supporters of Tinubu privately hope he loses the election due to discomfort with what he described as the president’s dominance over political office holders.
“Governors are scared, judges are scared, legislators are scared. So, Tinubu has become a figure that nobody is ready to confront and say, ‘Oga, you’ve done your best. Please go home,’” Momodu remarked.
His comments come as political parties and their leaders ramp up preparations for the 2027 general election.
