Women Protest in Abia State After Killings of Community Members

Amiyi Obilohia, Isuikwuato LGA — Economic activities in the Amiyi Obilohia community were disrupted on Friday as local women staged a protest following the deaths of two sons allegedly killed by gunmen.

The demonstration took place at the Eke market, effectively halting business operations in the area. The women, expressing their grief through somber songs, demanded the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the murders.

In their appeal, the protesters called on security agencies and government officials at various levels to enhance protection for their homes, surrounding forests, and roads from criminal activities. The protest commenced at the Ama Ukwu Oho Square, where participants also engaged in prayer for divine intervention in their plight.

Moreover, the women urged for increased support and proper equipment for local vigilante groups, emphasizing the urgency due to persistent insecurity, particularly along the boundary with Ogii Okigwe.

Agbaeze Chinonso, a member of the Amiyi Obilohia community, commented on the deteriorating security situation. “Movement within and around the area has reduced significantly. Economic stability is being threatened by insecurity, disrupting daily life in many homes,” he said.

Recently, Mr. Lucky Nweke Johnson, the representative for the Isuikwuato constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, raised a Matter of Urgent Public Importance regarding the violent incidents in his constituency.
