Young people would feel pressured if I showed off my wealth, achievements – Rema

Nigerian Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, emphasized the importance of humility in his public persona, explaining that he refrains from showcasing his wealth and success online to avoid placing undue pressure on young fans who may be facing their own challenges.

In an interview with Jam FM, the 26-year-old singer acknowledged that many young people look up to him, driven by admiration for his accomplishments. “A lot of young people look up to me, whether they are my fans or not,” he said. “I have something they want or dream of, so I do my best not to make anyone feel bad about themselves or feel pressured.”

Rema remarked on the tendency among youth to compare themselves to their peers, noting that some may rush their journeys due to perceptions of others’ success. “Everybody has their time,” he stated. “I just care about the kids who are under pressure. Parents also contribute to this by comparing their children, leading them to pursue careers that may not align with their interests.”

To counter this pressure, Rema keeps his lifestyle straightforward. He mentioned his preference for casual streetwear over high-end designer clothing. “The only things that are really lavish about me may be my chains or watches,” he added, reinforcing his commitment to authenticity and relatability in an industry often characterized by ostentation.
