Olympics: Chelle keeping tabs on Liverpool players ahead of U23 Afcon qualifiers

The coach of the Olympic Eagles, Eric Chelle, is closely monitoring two central defenders from Liverpool in preparation for the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to a report from Score Nigeria, Liverpool academy players Wellity Lucky and Noah Adekoya are both under consideration for potential selection to the Olympic Eagles. Both players have expressed their willingness to represent Nigeria after being contacted by the Nigeria Football Federation.
While Adekoya has yet to make an international appearance, his teammate Chibuzo Nwoko recently debuted for Nigeria during a friendly match against Russia.
Adekoya joined Liverpool from Burnley in January 2026 and has scored one goal in four appearances for the club in Premier League 2. Born in Zaragoza, Lucky qualifies for the Olympic Eagles through his parental lineage and has the option to represent Spain and England, having lived in England for more than five years.
Lucky has previously represented England at the U15 and U16 levels and has received an invitation to a training session with the Spain U17 team. The versatile defender is regarded as a promising talent with the potential to advance to Liverpool’s senior squad. He has been included in seven matchday squads and made his first-team debut in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace in October 2025.
The Olympic Eagles are scheduled to face the Democratic Republic of Congo in the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November 2026.
