El Clásico: ‘They’ll punish them’ – Rafael van der Vaart predicts Barcelona vs Real Madrid clash

Former Real Madrid Star Predicts El Clásico Outcome
Former Real Madrid midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has shared his predictions for the upcoming El Clásico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, set to take place this Sunday.
This matchup, which marks the first El Clásico of the current season, will be hosted by Barcelona at Spotify Camp Nou. The match is scheduled to kick off at 21:00 local time.
Van der Vaart, who spent two seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu, believes Real Madrid, under the management of José Mourinho, will take advantage of Barcelona’s defensive lapses through effective counter-attacking strategy.
Speaking to Winwin, he expressed confidence that Madrid can capitalize on Barcelona’s loss of possession. “I expect Real Madrid to win the match. Although Barcelona are playing well, I think Real Madrid can exploit Barcelona’s loss of possession very effectively through counter-attacks,” he stated. “I believe they will punish Barcelona.”
As of now, Barcelona leads the La Liga standings with nine consecutive wins, holding a six-point lead over Madrid, who currently sits in third place.
Van der Vaart, who also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Hamburger SV, highlighted the difference in mentality between the two clubs. He remarked, “The big difference is that Real Madrid have become a winning machine. The players fight for the manager and give their all on every inch of the pitch.”
Barcelona comes into the El Clásico after suffering a 4-2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday. However, Van der Vaart does not expect this loss to impact their performance in the upcoming match. “I do not believe the defeat against Paris Saint-Germain will influence Barcelona’s performance,” he said. “Naturally, experiencing defeat in a significant match is never favorable, particularly a 4-2 loss, which constitutes a substantial reversal.”
