BREAKING: Nigeria Evacuates Confirmed Ebola Patient To Switzerland

Nigeria has evacuated its first confirmed Ebola patient to Switzerland for advanced medical treatment, Health and Social Welfare Minister Professor Muhammed Ali Pate announced on Monday.

The patient, a 42-year-old woman diagnosed with Bundibugyo virus disease, departed from Abuja accompanied by her husband, who is asymptomatic.

In a statement shared on social media, Pate reported that the patient was in stable condition and had shown considerable improvement prior to her evacuation. He noted that laboratory test results were nearing baseline, yet cautioned that this progress does not eliminate the possibility of transmissibility.

“This does not mean she is no longer infectious, hence the strict protocols in place,” Pate stated. He emphasized that the evacuation was executed with his authorization, adhering to established public health measures for the transfer of patients with infectious diseases.

The minister praised the clinical team for their exceptional care and the public health personnel for following the necessary safety protocols during the evacuation process. Updates regarding the patient’s arrival in Switzerland will be provided in due course.

In the meantime, public health officials are maintaining surveillance and conducting contact tracing to mitigate the spread of the virus. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has identified 53 primary contacts associated with the confirmed case, all of whom are under monitoring.

Pate urged the public to stay vigilant and to seek information from reliable sources as efforts to contain the imported infection continue.
