Search Underway for Drowning Victims in Aba, Abia State

Aba, Abia State — The Abia State Fire Service, along with other security agencies, has joined the search for two residents who drowned in an open gutter at Ukwu Mango, Faulks Road, during a tragic incident on Sunday.

Witnesses report that a good Samaritan attempted to rescue a teenage girl from the gutter but lost his footing and fell in, resulting in both individuals being swept away.

Local residents and sympathizers initiated a search effort on Sunday but were unable to locate the victims. Fears have grown that they may have been carried downstream into the Aba River, prompting further concern within the community.

On Monday, state officials, led by the Abia State Fire Service, resumed search operations, focusing on the waters within the gutter system. Personnel from the Nigerian Police Force also arrived at the scene that morning to manage the crowd gathered to assist in the efforts.

As of this report, the missing individuals have yet to be located, and rescue operations remain ongoing. The Police Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that she would provide updates to the media as new information becomes available.
