INEC investigates suspected AI-generated photos in voters’ register

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is investigating concerns related to potentially AI-generated photographs in its preliminary voters’ register, amid rising public scrutiny ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, October 27, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, the chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, addressed these issues. He indicated that the preliminary register published online on October 26 is identical to the one displayed across various Registration Areas nationwide from October 9 to 15.
INEC reported that questionable records detected during the initial review process have been flagged for further scrutiny. According to the statement, the commission is actively examining the circumstances surrounding the suspicious photographs, including possible technical or procedural lapses, and will undertake appropriate actions based on verified findings.
The commission emphasized that the current register is not final and that the verification and correction process will continue until the Register of Voters is officially certified on December 15, 2026.
