Uzodimma remains our Imo West candidate, APC insists

Imo APC Reaffirms Uzodimma’s Candidacy Following Court Ruling
By Emmanuel Iheaka
The Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that Governor Hope Uzodimma will remain the party’s candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 general elections. This declaration comes despite a recent Federal High Court ruling that named former governor Rochas Okorocha as the winner of the party’s senatorial primary.
On Thursday, the court in Abuja ruled that Okorocha had secured victory in the primary election, directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize him as the APC candidate for the district.
In response to the court’s judgment, the APC’s state Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, emphasized in a statement that Uzodimma won the primary election with a significant majority of votes. He indicated that the party’s legal team would review the court’s decision and determine the next steps.
“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, remains the candidate of our party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement read.
Jones further noted that the legal department will assess the implications of the court ruling and act accordingly. He urged party members and supporters to remain focused on the party’s goals and to continue their efforts toward achieving success in the upcoming elections.
“We urge our teeming party members and supporters of our great party to remain focused and undistracted and remain committed to working assiduously for the victory of our party across all constituencies in the state,” Jones stated.
The ongoing dispute highlights the tension between Okorocha and Uzodimma regarding the APC ticket for Imo West as the 2027 elections approach.
