FRSC issues safety alert as dust haze reduces visibility in Gombe

Gombe FRSC Issues Driving Safety Alert Amid Dust Haze
GOMBE, Nigeria — The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Gombe State has issued an advisory for motorists amid ongoing seasonal dust haze, which is significantly diminishing visibility on major highways.
The Gombe State Sector Command has noted that the current atmospheric conditions present hazardous driving situations, where impaired vision and reduced reaction times heighten the risk of traffic accidents.
In a statement from Superintendent Route Commander Janet Kassa, the Sector Public Education Officer, the Command underscored that reckless behavior on the road would not be tolerated, especially during periods of diminished visibility.
Sector Commander Samson Kaura characterized the dust haze as a serious threat to road safety, advising motorists not to regard it as a mere seasonal norm. He urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, warning that speeding in such conditions could have fatal consequences.
“Speeding at this time becomes even more dangerous,” Kaura emphasized. He called on motorists to adhere to speed limits, reduce their speed, and practice defensive driving to prevent avoidable accidents.
The Command advised drivers to prepare their vehicles for challenging weather conditions. Motorists should ensure that headlights, taillights, and brake lights are operational and used appropriately, even during daylight, to enhance visibility to other road users.
Additionally, drivers are encouraged to maintain safe following distances, keep their windscreens clean, and refrain from risky maneuvers, such as improper overtaking and distracted driving.
The FRSC has urged the public to prioritize safety and comply with traffic regulations until visibility improves across the state.
