Southeast in darkness as EEDC announces partial national grid collapse

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Reports Partial Grid Collapse

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc (EEDC) announced a partial collapse of the national electricity grid that has left several regions in the Southeast without power.

EEDC spokesperson Emeka Ezeh confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, stating that the grid failure occurred at approximately 11:54 a.m. local time.

“This resulted in power outages affecting customers served by our subsidiaries, including MainPower, TransPower, FirstPower, NewEra, and EastLand,” Ezeh said.

The company noted that the cause of the grid collapse has not yet been determined but assured customers that efforts are underway to restore electricity supply.

This outage follows a recent nationwide decrease in electricity provision resulting from maintenance activities at Seplat Energy and repair work on a gas pipeline operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company.

As of the latest updates, parts of Abuja, Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi counties continued to receive electricity services from the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
