Rights group petitions Police Area Commander over alleged threat to life in Ogbomoso

Human Rights Group Urges Investigation into Alleged Threats in Ogbomoso

Ogbomoso, Nigeria — Save the Poor and Needy Charity Initiative (SPANCI) has urged the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force at Owode Area Command to investigate a situation involving Prince Adewale Iyanda, Chairman of the Ogbomoso and District Farm Produce Buyers and Sellers Association, and Secretary Mogbatolohun Ismael, alongside others.

In a petition signed by SPANCI President, Comrade Yemi Ezekiel Bello, the organization also submitted correspondence to the State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, the Commissioner of Police, and the Inspector General of Police. The petition alleges that Iyanda and Ismael have issued threats against Mr. Chukwunonso Michael Obiora and employees of OB Bright Resource Seasons, demanding they join the association.

According to the petition, Obiora and his coworkers have expressed a lack of interest in membership. The document asserts that this refusal has led to ongoing threats from Iyanda and Ismael.

The petition details an incident reportedly occurring on February 18, 2026. It alleges that Iyanda, Ismael, and a group of approximately 50 individuals forcibly entered the premises of OB Bright Resource Seasons, where they allegedly assaulted security personnel and employees. The complainants stated they were injured during the incident, prompting some to flee for safety.

The petition emphasizes that the members of OB Bright Resource Seasons have previously faced threats of violence if they did not join the association. It invokes Section 40 of the Nigerian constitution, which protects individuals’ rights to peaceful assembly and association.

“We hereby request justice for our clients and protection of the law for their lives and properties,” the petition states. It calls for a thorough investigation into the allegations and seeks the arrest and prosecution of those involved.

The situation remains under review by law enforcement authorities.
