Among those convicted, Muhammad Maina and Yakubu Adamu received death sentences by hanging for armed robbery. Seven others were sentenced to life imprisonment for crimes including rape, conspiracy, robbery, culpable homicide, and kidnapping. The individuals serving life terms include Shehu Isa, Adamu Adamu (also known as Nalele), Mohammed Bello, Kabiru Ahmed, Muhammad Jibrin (alias Al-Amin), Usman Bello (known as Maigamo), and Manu Umaru (called Alhaji Manu).
Additionally, eleven individuals convicted of fraud-related offenses received three-month jail sentences without the option of a fine. The convicted parties include Abubakar Shehu, Yusuf Aliyu Alhassan, Miracle Chidi, Dominic Lazarus, James Myaulompwa, Lawus Zakka, Sadiq Dosumo, Jude Titus, Joseph Olamide Adesunmila, Koche Samuel, and Falour Odinaka.
Other individuals received prison terms ranging from three months to ten years, with some granted the option to pay fines between N10,000 and N500,000, depending on the severity of their offenses.
Umar emphasized that the rulings followed comprehensive trials in which prosecutors provided evidence proving the defendants’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. He noted that the courts underscored the necessity of stringent punishments as a deterrent against crime, particularly kidnapping, which remains a significant security concern in the state.
“The Bauchi State Judiciary is committed to ensuring justice and supporting government efforts to combat crime and protect the public,” the statement concluded.
