Police neutralise two suspected IPOB/ESN sub-commanders in Imo

Two Suspected IPOB Sub-Commanders Killed in Imo State Operation
IMo State — Two suspected sub-commanders of the Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) were killed during a police operation on February 24. The operation took place in forest areas across Amaocha Afara, Umunoha, and Ifakala, located within the Mbaitoli and Njaba Local Government Areas.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert focusing on the Lake Chad region, reported the incident via an official post on X on Thursday. The operation was executed by tactical teams from the Imo State Police Command, based on actionable intelligence.
Upon encountering police forces, the suspects reportedly engaged in a gunfight, resulting in the deaths of two individuals identified by their aliases: “Minute” from Ebonyi State and “Nwaotu” from Mkpoku in Mbaitoli LGA. Authorities recovered two automatic pump-action guns, nine live cartridges, six spent cartridges, and a walkie-talkie at the scene. The remaining members of the group are believed to have fled with various injuries.
Authorities confirmed that no police personnel were harmed during the operation. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing, as this operation is part of the Imo State Police Command’s broader strategy to dismantle IPOB/ESN networks in the region.
As of this report, attempts to contact the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, for further comments were unsuccessful.
