Allegations against Gov Yusuf, DSS false, politically motivated – Kano gov’t

Kano State Government Denies Allegations of Suppression Against Opposition

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Government has rejected allegations made by Buba Galadima against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), describing them as false and politically motivated.

During a press briefing on Friday, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, addressed these claims, which include accusations that the government is suppressing opposition voices.

“The claims are outright false and politically contrived,” Waiya stated. He characterized Galadima’s comments as a “desperate attempt” to undermine the governor’s reputation and create division in the state. The commissioner noted that similar accusations emerged after Governor Yusuf affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and mentioned that Galadima’s remarks followed his removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic.

Waiya emphasized that Galadima’s removal was based solely on administrative performance and competence, dismissing suggestions of political persecution. He also denied any allegations that the government had instructed security agencies to intimidate political opponents.

“Any suggestion that the Kano State Government controls or manipulates federal security institutions is incorrect and deliberately deceptive,” he said.

He reiterated that the DSS and other security agencies operate strictly within legal parameters. While affirming the administration’s commitment to constructive criticism, Waiya cautioned against the spread of false information, which he said could disturb public peace.

“Freedom of expression does not extend to defamation, incitement, or deliberate falsehood,” he noted. He also remarked that opposition figures are allowed to operate freely in the state and that media and civic activities are ongoing, contrary to what he termed an alarmist narrative.

Waiya concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to democratic principles, the rule of law, and peaceful coexistence, promising continued support for security agencies to maintain law and order while safeguarding citizens’ rights.
