Four Arrested in Edo State Police Operation Involving Firearms
BENIN CITY, Edo State – The Edo State Police Command has arrested four individuals following the recovery of two AK-47 rifles and two magazines containing 33 rounds of live ammunition.
The arrests took place in the Uselu and Ahor communities within the Uhunmwonde Local Government Area. The Commander, ASP Eno Ikoedem, identified the suspects as Jabir Saleh, Musa Lawal, known as Gambo, Gaddafi Iliyasu, and Salau Haliru.
The police operation comes amid reports of ongoing communal conflicts in these areas, where tensions have escalated to violence, prompting residents to flee their homes.
In a statement released on Monday, March 2, 2026, Ikoedem explained that a swift response by police, initiated on February 18, led to the deployment of an intervention squad. Intelligence-driven surveillance resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the firearms.
“Further peace has been restored to the conflict-ridden communities as residents have begun returning to their homes due to assurances of safety,” Ikoedem stated.
Police Commissioner Monday Agbonika emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace. He assured residents that security measures have been enhanced and called for those who temporarily relocated to return to their homes and resume their normal activities.
Agbonika reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward violence and criminal activity, warning that any threats to public safety would be met with decisive action in accordance with the law. He affirmed the commitment to ongoing intelligence-driven operations to ensure sustained peace in Edo State.
