Nigeria will not surrender to insurgents – Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, affirmed that the government will not permit insurgents to undermine the peace of the nation or instill fear in its citizens. His comments came in response to recent attacks by insurgents in Borno State.

The assaults included abductions in Ngoshe and coordinated attacks on military sites in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok. Earlier, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reached out to the residents and authorities of Borno State following these incidents.

In a statement released by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Shettima condemned the violence and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians. He noted that the federal government has initiated the deployment of additional tactical equipment and intelligence resources to the affected regions.

“The events of the past few days are painful, but we must choose hope over fear,” Shettima stated. He also mentioned that President Tinubu has been briefed on the situation and has called for an immediate and comprehensive mobilization of the country’s security forces.

“The Federal Government will not allow any area in Nigeria to become a sanctuary for individuals seeking to displace citizens or seize any part of our territory,” he added.

Additionally, Shettima assured the Nigerian public that those responsible for the recent attacks would be held accountable under the law.
