‘These’re distractions, we’re matching to Aso Rock’ – Amaechi reacts to attacks on house, ADC’s office

Amaechi Responds to Violent Attacks on Family Home, ADC Secretariat
Rotimi Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, has characterized the recent attacks on his family residence in Ubima, Rivers State, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secretariat as distractions from their electoral campaign for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that their momentum toward the presidency remains strong.
The incidents occurred shortly before Amaechi’s arrival in the area to launch the ADC’s membership registration. His home was attacked, and the ADC office was set ablaze by assailants whose identities have yet to be confirmed. Following these events, Amaechi’s convoy was also targeted in a separate assault.
Addressing a crowd of supporters after his registration on Friday, Amaechi expressed gratitude to the security forces for their swift action in response to the violence. He urged residents of Rivers State to refrain from retaliatory actions, cautioning that such responses could result in loss of life.
In a statement from his media office, Amaechi offered his condolences to the landlord of the ADC secretariat and the members of the Ubima Ward, encouraging calm among his supporters. “Don’t be violent, as violence may lead to death,” he said, while asserting that their community meetings will continue unimpeded.
Amaechi commended the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their professionalism, acknowledging their immediate support. He stressed that continuous acts of violence must be addressed and that those responsible should be prosecuted.
“I know the consequences of not protecting the lives of people,” Amaechi stated. “For now, everybody should calm down. Our role is to be calm and peaceful. We are marching to Aso Rock. These acts are distractions.”
He also highlighted the urgent issues facing the population, stating, “People are dropping dead every day because of hunger, and some are stealing our money. We can no longer keep quiet.” Amaechi called for the ADC in Rivers State to mobilize significantly for the upcoming elections, declaring, “On Election Day, they will know whether we will vote or not.”
Following the attack on the ADC secretariat earlier on Friday, another assault occurred on Amaechi’s convoy. Security personnel engaged in a gun battle with the attackers, who ultimately retreated under the superior firepower of the security forces.
The ADC’s continued membership registration in Rivers State is seen as crucial for building support ahead of the 2027 elections.
