Turkey: Beşiktaş chief blasts referee after Osimhen escapes red in Istanbul derby

Beşiktaş Vice President Questions Referee’s Decision in Istanbul Derby

ISTANBUL—Beşiktaş Vice President Hakan Daltaban has publicly challenged the decision not to issue a second yellow card to Victor Osimhen during Saturday’s Istanbul derby against Galatasaray, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Beşiktaş.

Osimhen’s goal in the 41st minute secured a critical victory for Galatasaray, reinforcing their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Turkish Super Lig title. The match saw Galatasaray finish with ten players after Leroy Sané received a red card following a second booking in the 62nd minute.

Daltaban expressed surprise that Osimhen, who was booked early in the match, was not penalized for a subsequent incident where he deliberately kicked the ball away after play had stopped. “The captain has the authority to speak on behalf of the team. The referee correctly issued a yellow card to our captain for his protest. Osimhen should have been booked again for that action,” Daltaban stated on the club’s official website.
