Premier League releases statement on penalty decision as Arsenal beat Everton 2-0

The Premier League issued a statement clarifying the decision not to award Arsenal a penalty during the first half of their 2-0 victory against Everton on Saturday.

Arsenal’s Kai Havertz was involved in a challenge with Everton defender Michael Keane after receiving a pass from Eberechi Eze. However, referee Andy Madley did not call a foul, and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) upheld the on-field decision.

In the statement from the Premier League Match Centre, officials explained, “The referee’s call of no penalty to Arsenal was checked and confirmed by VAR, with the contact from Keane on Havertz deemed to be minimal.”

Arsenal secured the win with late goals from Viktor Gyokeres and Max Dowman, allowing them to extend their lead to 10 points over Manchester City, who are set to face West Ham later in the week.
