Turkey: Osimhen, Onuachu create histories in Galatasaray, Trabzonspor wins

Osimhen, Onuachu Shine in Turkish Süper Lig Matches

ISTANBUL — Super Eagles forwards Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu both delivered standout performances in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday, scoring crucial goals for their respective clubs.

Osimhen contributed to Galatasaray’s 3-0 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir, netting his 12th goal of the league season. He scored in the 66th minute, converting a precise cross from Yunus Akgun. This goal, which doubled Galatasaray’s lead following Wilfried Singo’s initial score, marked a significant achievement for Osimhen and helped solidify his status in the club’s history.

Throughout his current streak, Osimhen has scored or assisted in nine consecutive Süper Lig matches. Over these matches, he has tallied nine goals and provided four assists, showcasing his integral role in Galatasaray’s offensive dynamics. According to statistics from Opta Can, this is the longest scoring streak for a Galatasaray player since 2014-2015. The team’s final goal came from Renato Nhaga in the 84th minute, ensuring a commanding win that strengthens Galatasaray’s position in the league.

Meanwhile, Onuachu continued his scoring prowess in Trabzonspor’s narrow 1-0 win against Çaykur Rizespor. The Nigerian forward netted the game’s only goal just six minutes into the second half after an assist from Oleksandr Zubkov. This goal elevated Onuachu’s season tally to 23 goals and two assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.

His current scoring streak has now reached eight consecutive league matches, having previously scored against teams including Kasımpaşa S.K. and Fenerbahçe S.K. This achievement positions him as the first player to reach eight or more consecutive league goals for Trabzonspor since Burak Yılmaz in 2011. Additionally, Onuachu is approaching the record for most goals by a foreign player in a single Süper Lig season for Trabzonspor, currently held by Shota Arveladze, who scored 25 goals during the 1995-96 season.

Both players’ performances underscore their significance to their clubs as the league season progresses.
