African Democratic Congress Unveils 2026 Primary Election Timetable
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has released its timetable for the 2026 primary elections, emphasizing a structured approach designed to ensure transparency, foster internal democracy, and comply with electoral guidelines.
According to the schedule, the sale of nomination forms will take place from May 5 to May 10, 2026. Candidates must submit their completed forms between May 11 and May 13.
Screening for aspirants is set for May 14 and May 15, with results to be published on May 17. Appeals related to the screening process will be addressed from May 18 to May 19, culminating in the release of the final list of qualified candidates on May 20.
Primary elections are scheduled to begin on May 21, featuring simultaneous contests for State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate seats at the ward level. Governorship primaries will occur on May 22, followed by the presidential primary on May 25.
A National Executive Committee meeting is planned for May 26, leading into a Special National Convention on May 27 for the final ratification of candidates.
The party has also established a structured fee regime for nomination forms across all elective positions. The fees are set at N100 million for presidential candidates, N50 million for gubernatorial candidates, N20 million for Senate candidates, N10 million for House of Representatives candidates, and N3 million for State House of Assembly candidates.
To enhance inclusivity, the ADC has introduced discounted rates: 50 percent off for youth candidates and 25 percent off for women and persons with disabilities.
The ADC urges its members, stakeholders, and aspirants to adhere strictly to the established schedule and guidelines.
