Amnesty International raises alarm over killing of 29 people by Boko Haram in Adamawa

Amnesty International Condemns Boko Haram Attack in Adamawa State
Amnesty International has condemned the recent attack by Boko Haram on the Guyaku community in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, which resulted in the deaths of at least 29 individuals.
The attack occurred on Sunday, prompting many residents to flee their homes in search of safety. Reports indicate that numerous people remain missing in the aftermath of the violence.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Monday, Amnesty described the incident as brutal and expressed alarm over the ongoing targeting of civilians in the region. According to the organization, armed assailants opened fire on villagers at close range.
The attack also led to significant property damage, with the assailants reportedly setting fire to churches, classrooms, and motorcycles.
Survivors and witnesses provided harrowing accounts, noting that bodies were seen scattered throughout the village. The organization emphasized that elderly residents who could not escape were particularly vulnerable, with reports of some being killed in their homes.
Amnesty International highlighted that these incidents extend beyond loss of life, as women and girls continue to be abducted, and properties looted in the affected areas.
The organization urged that more action is necessary to protect civilians and ensure justice for the families of victims. “The fact that such atrocities remain commonplace shows that more needs to be done to protect civilians and ensure that families of victims receive reparation and justice,” the statement concluded.
