At least 10 killed, houses razed in fresh Fulani-Kamuku clash in Niger
Niger State Violence Claims Lives, Properties
Rafi, Niger State — At least 10 people have died in a recent outbreak of violence between the Fulani and Kamuku communities in Rafi Local Government Area, where several homes were also set ablaze.
The clashes began on Tuesday in the villages of Mararraban Gwadaro and Tashan Bako, believed to be a continuation of hostilities from a previous confrontation that resulted in one fatality a few weeks ago.
Local residents characterized the latest attacks as retaliatory, highlighting that many of the casualties included women and children. Community members have urged the government and security agencies to take immediate action to address the ongoing violence.
Rafi Local Government Area Chairman Ayuba Usman Katako confirmed the unrest, stating that investigations are underway to identify those responsible for the attacks. While he did not disclose a specific casualty count, Katako emphasized that no government can remain passive while its citizens are under threat.
He assured the public that those found responsible will face legal consequences as a deterrent against future violence. Katako also noted that an increased number of security personnel have been deployed to the affected areas to restore order and ensure the safety of residents.
