Bauchi Police Foil Alleged Kidnapping, Arrest Suspect
BAUCHI, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully intervened in the attempted abduction of a 16-year-old boy, resulting in the arrest of a 60-year-old man identified as Abdullahi Abubakar in the Shira Local Government Area.
Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib announced the details of the case in a statement on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, confirming that the victim, Usman Dauda, was rescued unharmed during a law enforcement operation.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday, September 28, when the boy’s father, a 50-year-old resident of Zigau Village, reported that his son had been taken from Misau town to Bangala Village by Abubakar. According to Habib, the suspect was allegedly planning to transport the teenager to Kano for undisclosed reasons.
Following the father’s report, detectives from the Yana Division mobilized quickly and were able to secure the safe release of the boy. After the rescue, Usman was transported to the General Hospital in Yana for a medical examination, while Abubakar was taken into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly confined the boy in his room for a day without adequate food.
In a separate operation within Bauchi metropolis, police officers from ‘A’ Division apprehended five suspects involved in a burglary at an uncompleted building in Doya Quarters. The arrests occurred around 4:30 PM on Monday, as the suspects were reportedly removing windows and glass from the property. Items believed to be stolen were recovered at the scene.
Additionally, police made further arrests at Unguwan Igbo at approximately 5:30 AM, where suspects were found in possession of suspected stolen goods concealed in a black bag. Victims of the theft later identified the recovered items and provided evidence of ownership.
Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered that both cases be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
The police command has urged residents to continue to provide timely and credible information to assist in combating crime throughout the state.
