Gombe Police Arrest Man for Alleged Attack on Girlfriend

GOMBE, Nigeria — The Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, identified as Musa Adamu, following an alleged violent attack on his girlfriend. The incident involved an assault with a hammer, an attempt to strangle the victim, and the theft of 100,000 naira.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, detailed the events in a statement, noting that the suspect, a resident of Riyal Quarters, was apprehended after the victim reported the incident to the Pantami Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to the victim’s account, the attack occurred around 2:00 a.m. when Adamu reportedly entered her residence by scaling the fence and forcibly breaking into her room.

The statement indicated that the victim sustained serious injuries during the assault and was taken to a hospital after police arrived at the scene. She received medical treatment and has since been discharged.

Authorities recovered an iron hammer, allegedly stained with blood, and a USB cable, which are believed to have been used in the attack.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adamu had previously requested money from the victim, a businesswoman, but she had declined his demands.

Adamu remains in police custody as investigations continue. He is expected to be charged in court upon the completion of inquiries.

DSP Abdullahi reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring public safety and encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
