FCT: Wike moves to impound, auction vehicles operating outside of designated parks in Abuja
FCT Minister Announces Measures to Enforce Transport Regulations
The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced new measures to ensure compliance with transport regulations in Abuja. These measures include seizing and auctioning vehicles that operate outside designated parks.
Wike made the announcement during a press briefing following his inspection of key road projects in major satellite towns, including the long-anticipated Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometer Bwari-Kubwa Road.
The Minister addressed growing concerns regarding commercial taxi drivers who continue to pick up passengers along roads in the FCT rather than utilizing designated terminals, such as the Mabushi Bus Terminal.
“We will persist in our enforcement actions,” Wike said, reiterating the administration’s commitment to impounding vehicles that do not adhere to the prescribed parking regulations, with the option of auctioning them if necessary.
In regard to the unauthorized use of green spaces for vehicle sales within the territory, Wike explained that building approvals are issued by the relevant departments and agencies, rather than his office. He confirmed the establishment of a task force dedicated to removing such encroachments and indicated that any vehicle found in designated green areas would also be subject to impoundment and potential auction.
“We must restore order,” Wike stated. “If you do not vacate the green areas or use the accredited terminals, we will impound and auction those vehicles. Everyone must obey the rules.”
