Troops dismantle IPOB, ESN strongholds, recover weapons, IED materials in Anambra

Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, operating under the UDO KA initiative, have successfully dismantled strongholds associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. The operation, which took place on August 22, 2026, was conducted in collaboration with the Maritime Component of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Anambra Vigilante Group.
In a statement released on Saturday evening, the task force detailed how the agencies carried out a coordinated dawn offensive targeting specific locations at Obene Village and Abator Village within the Ochuche and Umunankwo communities.
According to the report, the identified militants responded to the advancing troops by opening fire; however, they eventually abandoned their positions, fleeing into the surrounding area. The task force then mounted a counteroffensive, resulting in the neutralization of one individual identified as a terrorist. Others fled the scene, taking with them the body of a fellow member who had also been neutralized.
This coordinated assault was deemed effective, successfully removing the group’s presence from their strongholds and limiting their capability to operate and launch further attacks.
Following a thorough search of the stronghold areas, the task force recovered a number of items, including two pump-action guns, two motorcycles, materials for making improvised explosive devices, and various other items.
