Fire razes residential building in Kwara

Fire Consumes Residential Building in Kwara State
A residential building on Tewo-Gbore Street in the Eyenkorin area of Asa Local Government Area, Kwara State, was severely damaged by fire early Sunday morning.
The incident, which occurred around 12:38 a.m., affected both a room-and-parlor self-contained apartment and a two-bedroom flat.
Hassan Adekunle, spokesperson for the Kwara State Fire Service, confirmed that firefighters were dispatched promptly after receiving a distress call. Their timely response was instrumental in preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent structures, thus limiting the extent of damage.
Preliminary investigations indicated that improperly extinguished charcoal stored near the residential building was the likely cause of the fire. Adekunle noted that some sacks of charcoal had recently been unloaded, and residual heat from a portion that was not fully quenched had reignited when exposed to air, leading to the fire’s escalation.
Alabi Muhammed, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, addressed the incident by cautioning charcoal dealers, transporters, and residents about the risks associated with improper handling and storage of combustible materials. He emphasized the importance of keeping such materials away from residential areas and encouraged residents to be vigilant and report any fire incidents to emergency services promptly.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive emergency response measures and public safety education throughout the state.
