Five Officers Arraigned in Fatal Shooting Case
ASABA, Delta State — Five police officers charged in connection with the death of Oghenemine Ogidi, known as OG Millan, appeared in High Court 5 on Monday.
The defendants are Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, 42; ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo, 47; ASP Okoh Kelechi, 46; Inspector Goodluck Kingsley, 42; and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu, 41. The case is registered as Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026 and was presided over by Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro.
As the proceedings began, the court ordered the officers to be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre until further legal advice is provided by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case is set to resume on June 15, 2026.
Family members of the 28-year-old musician expressed frustration over their lack of communication regarding the case. They reported that they were not informed about the court proceedings and had to rely on unofficial sources for updates.
Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu described the officers’ court appearance as a noteworthy step towards justice. He highlighted that the judges ordered the suspects to remain in custody while awaiting further developments from the DPP. However, he raised concerns about the absence of information provided to the victim’s family, who claimed they had not received the autopsy report or any formal updates on the investigation.
Gwamnishu noted that future hearings might be held virtually, with the accused appearing from the correctional facility. He expressed hope for a swift legal process leading to a comprehensive trial.
Emuobor Alex, a cousin of Ogidi, recounted that family members traveled from Warri to Asaba after receiving early morning information about the hearing but arrived after the proceedings concluded. He urged the Delta State Ministry of Justice to improve communication going forward.
Victory Ogidi, the brother of the deceased, also voiced his family’s frustration about the reliance on social media for updates, emphasizing the need for transparency and official communication from authorities. He called on the Attorney-General of Delta State, the Ministry of Justice, and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the family is adequately informed throughout the legal proceedings.
