Four vehicles, properties worth millions of razed as fire ravages mechanic workshop, residential building in Oyo
Fire Destroys Vehicles and Property in Ibadan Mechanic Workshop
IBADAN—A fire at a mechanic workshop in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road destroyed four vehicles and a container on Saturday evening, causing millions of naira in damages.
Officials from the Oyo State Fire Service confirmed the incident, stating that no casualties were reported. The chair of the fire service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, indicated that the fire was contained swiftly, preventing its spread to adjacent properties.
“Upon arrival, we found the vehicles and container engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing from the site,” Akinwande said. He attributed the fire’s ignition to sparks from an engine compartment that ignited combustible materials.
In a related incident, a shop and a residential building were also affected by a fire in Ogbomoso on Saturday. The fire occurred at No. 5 Ile Atagbonrin in the Stadium area, with damages estimated in the millions of naira. Akinwande again confirmed this occurrence, noting that a prefabricated shop adjacent to a six-room residential building was ablaze upon the fire service’s arrival.
