Gombe State Police Recover Hidden AK-47 Ammunition

GOMBE, Nigeria — The Gombe State Police Command announced the recovery of 119 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, concealed in a bag along Kalshingi Road in Kwadon, located in the Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area.

DSP Buhari Abdullahi, spokesman for the state police, reported that the discovery occurred around 10:30 a.m. on May 19, 2026, following credible information received by the Divisional Police Officer of Kwadon Division.

According to Abdullahi, officers found a suspicious white sack hidden beneath a tree opposite a graveyard along the road. Upon arriving at the site, police recovered the sack and conducted a search.

The contents of the bag included 119 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, two empty ammunition packets, two bottles of moringa seeds, and one green bag. After the discovery, law enforcement officials secured the surrounding area but did not apprehend any suspects.

Abdullahi indicated that the police command has increased monitoring and surveillance in the vicinity as investigations continue to identify those responsible for the concealed ammunition.

Commissioner of Police Bello Yahaya commended the public for their timely information and urged residents to remain vigilant. He appealed to community members to continue assisting security agencies with valuable intelligence to help combat insecurity and safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
