Govt that can’t protect lives has no right to exist – Obasanjo blasts Tinubu administration

Former President Obasanjo Criticizes Tinubu Administration Over Insecurity
LAGOS, Nigeria — Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed strong criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration regarding the escalating insecurity in the country. In a recent interview with News Central, Obasanjo emphasized that any government that fails to ensure the safety of its citizens lacks the legitimacy to govern.
Obasanjo’s comments come in response to a surge in violence across Nigeria, which has resulted in numerous fatalities and a significant number of abductions. He stated, “The government that cannot provide security for the life and property of its citizens has no right of existence.”
In addition to his remarks on security, Obasanjo addressed concerns about the financial practices of elected officials. He asserted that members of the National Assembly should not have the authority to determine their own salaries and benefits, noting that such decisions should fall under the purview of the Revenue Mobilization and Allocation Commission.
“It’s not in our constitution for them to do that,” he added.
The former president’s statements highlight ongoing challenges facing the Tinubu administration, as concerns over safety and governance remain at the forefront of national dialogue.
