Sokoto Hisbah Board Shuts Down Suspected Brothel, Arrests 11
SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Hisbah Board conducted a raid on Wednesday evening, leading to the shutdown of a suspected brothel and the arrest of 11 individuals in Sokoto metropolis.
The operation occurred in the Sokoto Cilma area as part of a campaign under the initiative “Operation Tsaftace Birni Shehu.” This operation aims to curb activities deemed immoral and in violation of public and religious order laws in the state.
According to officials, the raid was prompted by intelligence reports from community members regarding suspicious behavior at the residence. The operation was led by Imam Sirajo Abubakar, the Acting Commander of the Sokoto State Hisbah Board and Director of Da’awah and Aids.
The building has been sealed, and the arrested suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
Abubakar emphasized the board’s dedication to eradicating what it views as harmful activities within the community. “We are determined to rid Sokoto metropolis of all forms of prostitution and immoral acts that corrupt our youths,” he stated.
He also warned that individuals participating in such activities could face prosecution and reiterated that enforcement operations will be ongoing across the state.
“The public should expect more of these operations because we will not allow indecency to take root in our communities,” he added.
