How Dapper forged my signature, sold my catalogue to foreign label – Shallipopi

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has lodged serious allegations against his former record label boss, Damilola Akinwunmi, the CEO of Dapper Music. Shallipopi claims that Akinwunmi engaged in forgery and fraudulently sold his music catalog to an international company.

In a statement posted on his official X page on Saturday, Shallipopi contended that he only entered into a management agreement with Dapper Music in 2023. He alleges that Akinwunmi forged his signature on a distribution contract intended for a duration of 10 years.

The artist further accused Akinwunmi of allegedly selling his catalog to a foreign company and retaining the proceeds for himself. Shallipopi asserted that Akinwunmi misappropriated the revenue generated from his music, advising him instead to “work harder for a better future.”

Shallipopi expressed his frustration, stating, “In 2023, I signed to Dapper management only. He forged my signature and put it on a 10-year distribution contract even when I already used DistroKid. He also went ahead to forge my signature to sign with an international label called Virgin Music Group.”

He added, “I might be from the trenches but I’m not the dumb type. Dapper went ahead to collect money from Virgin Music Group and put all that money in his pocket, telling me to work more, more and more, that my money is in the future.”

The musician indicated that he intends to bring these allegations to the attention of anti-corruption agencies and expose what he claims are fraudulent activities by Akinwunmi. “I want the EFCC and the entire government, the entire media, and everyone in Africa as a whole to take this matter very seriously,” he said.

As of now, Dapper Music has not issued a public response to Shallipopi’s accusations.
