‘I won’t be 40 still dragging stage with artistes in 20s’ — Davido hints on retirement

Davido Suggests Possible Break from Music Career
Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has indicated that he may step away from music in the future. During a recent interview on “The Uncut Podcast,” he expressed his reluctance to remain in the limelight at the age of 40, particularly while competing with younger artists.
Davido clarified that his remarks should not be seen as a recommendation for other established musicians to retire. “Music is my blood, but I’m not going to be 40 still dragging with guys in their 20s,” he stated. He cited rapper Jay-Z’s decision to take a break from the industry as a notable example.
The 33-year-old also expressed confidence that he could take an extended hiatus from creating music and still return to considerable success, thanks to his established body of work. “I can take a 10-year break and still do a 50-arena tour. I have the catalogue,” he noted. Davido suggested that he might even choose to stop making music permanently without diminishing the value of his past records.
He further emphasized the importance of using music as a stepping stone for exploring other opportunities outside of performing and recording. “All I am saying is there are other things music should be able to help you branch out into,” he added.
