‘I’m sorry’ – Okpebholo’s aide apologises, retracts comment against Davido

Kassy Chukwu, the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, issued an apology to Nigerian music star Davido on Monday for controversial remarks indicating the singer was barred from performing in the state.
In a video posted on X, Chukwu expressed regret for his earlier statements, clarifying that they were made in a personal capacity and without the governor’s authorization. He stated that his comments stemmed from his offense at remarks attributed to Davido regarding the governor and his family.
“I didn’t do that video as an appointee of the government, and I didn’t do that video on the instruction or with the permission of the governor of Edo State,” Chukwu said. “I did that video in my personal capacity as a son of the governor who was offended by the statement that the governor’s children should be ashamed of their father.”
Chukwu also extended his apologies directly to Okpebholo, acknowledging that his remarks may have caused embarrassment to the governor.
Previously, Chukwu had circulated a video online warning that Davido was banned from entering Edo State. However, the Edo State Government promptly disavowed those statements, emphasizing that they did not reflect the official position of the administration.
