Imo LGA vice chairman suspended over alleged armed robbery, others

Imo State Council Suspends Vice Chairman Over Allegations of Misconduct

Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Council in Imo State has indefinitely suspended its Vice Chairman, Prince Mathew Igbokwe, amid allegations of armed robbery and other administrative offenses.

The suspension was announced in a press statement issued by the Council’s Legislative Assembly, led by Chairman Benson Mgbechi. The decision was reached during a plenary session, where Igbokwe was given a seven-day ultimatum to appear before the Assembly.

The motion for suspension was introduced by Chief Whip Ajaa Echezolachi and seconded by Deputy Leader Steven Echeta. The Assembly adopted the motion with a majority vote.

According to the statement, Igbokwe faces serious charges, including repeated absences from official duties and unauthorized travel outside the state. These actions have been described as a dereliction of duty and a violation of the protocols expected from a high-ranking public official.

The Assembly’s most serious allegation claims that Igbokwe is tied to armed robbery and unspecified criminal activities, supported by his reported arrest by the Lagos State Police Command.

The press release stated that Igbokwe’s alleged misconduct has brought significant disgrace upon the Imo State government and the residents of Ezinihitte Mbaise. The Legislative body stressed that his actions are not representative of the values upheld by the community.

The Legislative Council emphasized that its prompt response is in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 6, 2022, of the Nigerian Constitution of Administration, as amended. The Council aims to restore its image and demonstrate to the public that such behavior does not characterize the people of Ezinihitte Mbaise.
