DIG Calls for Unity Among Security Agencies in Southeast Nigeria
IMOSATE—Deputy Inspector-General of Police Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, who oversees the South-East Geopolitical Zone and manages Logistics and Supply, has emphasized the necessity for a collaborative approach among security agencies to combat crime and enhance safety in the region.
Onwuemelie made this appeal during an operational visit to Imo State, part of a wider strategic assessment tour of the area ordered by Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
At the State Police Command, Onwuemelie was received by Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso and senior command officers. He addressed the personnel, stressing the importance of professionalism, discipline, accountability, and intelligence-led policing.
He urged officers to remain dedicated to their duty of protecting lives and property while acknowledging the command’s efforts in maintaining safety in the state.
“Dedication, vigilance, and responsiveness are crucial in our work,” he stated. Onwuemelie highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration between the police, other security entities, government bodies, traditional rulers, and community leaders to effectively address modern security challenges.
In his remarks, he pointed out the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to adopting modern crime-fighting technologies, including artificial intelligence and drones, to improve intelligence gathering, surveillance, and proactive policing efforts.
As part of his visit, Onwuemelie, accompanied by Bosso and other command officials, paid a courtesy call to Eze Imo, C.C. Okeke, urging traditional institutions to continue their support in fostering security partnerships.
During the meeting, Eze Imo reaffirmed the traditional rulers’ commitment to assisting security agencies in maintaining peace across the state.
