IPOB: Order unconditional release of detained Igbo youths — Ejimakor tells Tinubu

Lawyer Calls for Release of Detained Igbo Youths
Aloy Ejimakor, legal counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, has urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure the unconditional release of Igbo youths believed to be detained throughout Nigeria without trial.
In a statement posted on X this past Saturday, Ejimakor raised alarms over what he referred to as the ongoing detention of “thousands of Igbo youths” who are suspected of affiliation with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“All people of conscience should urge President Tinubu to direct the unconditional release of the thousands of Igbo youths detained without trial across Nigeria on mere suspicion of being IPOB,” he wrote.
Ejimakor emphasized that those currently in custody are entitled to freedom, arguing that lengthy detentions without proper legal proceedings undermine both justice and the rule of law. His remarks coincide with ongoing discussions regarding security operations in the South-East region and claims of arbitrary arrests connected to the banned separatist group.
He reiterated the importance of due process, contending that individuals either deserve to be formally charged in court or released.
The DAILY POST reports that the Federal Government has classified IPOB as a financier of terrorism in Nigeria; however, Ejimakor contested this designation.
