Kenneth Okonkwo faces another N5 billion suit over alleged bribe by NDC aspirants

Former Imo State Governor Sues ADC Chieftain for Defamation

Former Imo State Governor Chief Achike Udenwa has filed a defamation lawsuit against Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The legal action stems from remarks made by Okonkwo during an interview on Channels TV on June 8, 2026.

In the interview, Okonkwo allegedly accused Udenwa of extorting funds from political aspirants affiliated with the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). He claimed, “This is why the NDC released a statement that it is only the South East caucus of the party that was involved in such problems. Onyema Ugochukwu, Achike Udenwa, Peter Obi, and other leaders of the South East caucus were busy extorting the South East aspirants.”

In response, Udenwa’s attorney, Soronnadi A. Njoku, SAN, has demanded that Okonkwo retract his statements, issue a public apology, and pay 5 billion naira in damages.

Additionally, NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has also initiated legal proceedings against Okonkwo concerning the same allegations.
