Nigerian Army Foils Kidnapping, Armed Robbery Attempt in Federal Capital Territory
Nigerian Army troops thwarted a suspected kidnapping and armed robbery attempt early Tuesday along the Jere–Bwari Expressway in the Federal Capital Territory, successfully rescuing a victim unharmed.
The incident took place around 2:45 a.m. on July 25, when soldiers from the 102 Guards Battalion, stationed at Jere, acted on credible intelligence regarding a robbery and potential kidnapping in progress along the highway, security expert Zagazola Makama reported on X.
Upon arrival at the scene, the troops encountered the alleged armed robbers, who fled into nearby bushes, leaving the victim behind. The Army reported that the soldier’s quick response ensured the safe recovery of the individual without any injuries.
In light of the incident, efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend the fleeing suspects. Makama highlighted that the swift intervention of the troops prevented what could have been a successful abduction, reiterating the military’s commitment to ensuring the safety of commuters on major roads in and around the Federal Capital Territory.
