Airstrike Targets ISWAP Hideout in Borno State
The Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI conducted a precise airstrike late July 23 on a suspected hideout of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Southern Lake Chad region, resulting in multiple terrorist casualties.
The operation was reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst. According to his findings, the airstrike followed extensive intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) efforts that identified significant terrorist activity in Arenna, located in the Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
The mission commenced around 10:35 PM after intelligence indicated the presence of approximately 50 motorcycles associated with terrorists in the area. Surveillance aircraft monitored the site before executing the strike on the designated hideout.
A Battle Damage Assessment (BDA) conducted post-operation confirmed that all terrorists inside the targeted structure were neutralized, alongside three additional fighters outside the building who were also killed.
Additionally, three suspected terrorists were observed attempting to flee the area after the strike, suggesting they survived the initial bombardment.
Following the airstrike, the surveillance aircraft continued to monitor the area to identify any remaining terrorists who might regroup or escape. A military source indicated that the operation was intelligence-driven and executed with precision, achieving its objectives effectively.
Makama noted that this airstrike is part of an ongoing campaign by Operation HADIN KAI aimed at dismantling ISWAP and Boko Haram enclaves, disrupting their logistical capabilities, and restricting their movements across the Lake Chad region.
