Ogun: Group urges government to prioritize healthcare, infrastructure challenges
Civil Society Organization Calls for Enhanced Healthcare and Infrastructure in Ogun State
A civil society organization, Lygel Youths & Leadership Initiative, has urged the Ogun State Government to prioritize improvements in healthcare and infrastructure to enhance living conditions across the state.
In a statement released by Executive Director Lekan Oladapo, the organization expressed concerns regarding the state of healthcare facilities, local government administration, and infrastructure in various regions of Ogun State.
The initiative highlighted persistent challenges in accessing quality healthcare, despite the government’s ongoing renovation efforts. It noted that many Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) continue to lack the necessary facilities and personnel to adequately serve their communities.
“We challenge this administration to show the people one major, newly constructed, and fully functional state hospital built from the ground up in the last seven years,” the statement read.
The organization also pointed out that healthcare delivery at the grassroots level suffers due to issues impacting local government administration.
Additionally, Lygel Youths & Leadership Initiative raised concerns about infrastructure, especially in border and industrial areas, such as the Agbara-Atan-Lusada corridor. Poor road conditions in these regions were described as significant barriers to economic activity and investment.
The group emphasized that Ogun State’s proximity to Lagos could ideally foster greater industrial and infrastructural development. It urged the state government to adopt a more strategic approach to developing border towns and planning public infrastructure.
Furthermore, the organization called for increased transparency and accountability in the execution of public projects, stressing the necessity for citizens to have easier access to information regarding government spending and procurement processes.
Strengthening healthcare, infrastructure, and local governance, the statement concluded, would likely boost public confidence and accelerate development throughout Ogun State. The organization appealed to relevant authorities and oversight agencies to ensure proper monitoring of public funds and development projects.
