Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Attempted Murder and Vehicle Theft
BAUCHI, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Bala Yusuf, a resident of Dutse Local Government Area in Jigawa State, for allegedly attempting to kill a driver and steal his vehicle.
According to a statement released by Police Spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib on Thursday, Yusuf hired the driver to transport him from Abuja to Jos. After they arrived in Jos, Yusuf reportedly convinced the driver to continue to Bauchi, claiming he wanted to visit family.
Upon reaching Bauchi, the suspect allegedly drugged the driver’s meal with sleeping pills and attempted to make off with the vehicle, valued at approximately N5 million.
The police statement indicated that Yusuf was apprehended while still in possession of the vehicle. Meanwhile, the victim was taken to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for medical treatment.
The police are continuing their investigation into the incident and will determine the appropriate charges for Yusuf before referring the case to court.
