Two Men Arrested for Tricycle Robberies in Kano
KANO, Nigeria—The Kano State Police Command announced the arrest of two men suspected of robbing tricycle riders. The police also recovered a stolen tricycle during the operation.
The suspects, identified as Usman Ashiru, 26, from Rijiyar Lemo, and Abubakar Ali, 28, were apprehended after allegedly robbing a 22-year-old tricycle rider at gunpoint. According to Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident took place on July 21, 2026.
Kiyawa stated that the victim, Abdulrahman Atula of Kawo Hotoro, was allegedly lured, drugged, and robbed of his tricycle by the suspects.
The stolen tricycle, bearing registration number AJG 170 VC and KAROTA number NSR 0709, was recovered by officers from the Dala Police Division during an intelligence-led operation.
Atula is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Kiyawa informed that investigators have connected the suspects to multiple additional robberies. He noted that ten other tricycle operators, previously victimized in similar incidents in the Dorayi and Bachirawa Quarters, have come forward to identify Ashiru and Ali as the armed robbers responsible for their attacks.
The police are urging anyone who has experienced similar robberies to report to the Dala Police Division or contact the Divisional Police Officer at 08036885094.
Investigations are ongoing, with police efforts focused on apprehending other suspected gang members and recovering additional stolen property. The suspects are expected to be taken to court following the completion of the investigation.
