Investigation Underway in Alleged Suicide of Pastor in Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the alleged suicide of Pastor Etetim Udo, founder and General Overseer of the Power in the Word of God for the World Ministries, in the Oron local government area.
According to a statement from the police’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, authorities received a distress call on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at approximately 8:18 a.m. A nearby resident reported an unusual gathering at the church premises, where he typically parked his motorcycle.
The resident was reportedly informed by the pastor’s children that their father had allegedly taken his own life. Police officers were dispatched to the scene shortly thereafter.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Pastor Udo was found suspended with a twisted mosquito net rope. Investigators collected relevant evidence to aid in forensic examination and further inquiry.
“The deceased was later transported to the hospital, where a doctor confirmed him dead. His remains have been placed in the mortuary pending an autopsy,” John stated.
Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare emphasized that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly, impartially, and professionally. He also urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward and refrain from spreading rumors.
