Police rescue two kidnap victims, arrest suspect in Ekiti forest raid

Ekiti Police Rescue Two Kidnapping Victims in Joint Operation
The Ekiti State Police Command, in a collaborative effort with military forces, the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, uncovered a kidnappers’ den in a forested area between Irele-Ekiti in Ekiti State and Ogbe in Kogi State. This discovery occurred during a recent bush-combing operation.
According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, the operation led to the rescue of two hostages, identified as Iorfa Solomon, 35, and Blessing Kingsley, 37.
The statement detailed a confrontation between police operatives and suspected kidnappers, during which a gun battle ensued. One suspect was arrested at the scene while others managed to escape. Fortunately, the two victims were rescued unharmed.
Further investigation revealed that the victims were abducted on June 4, 2026, while they were on duty at Aluta Bar in Ikoyi, Kogi State. The victims recounted that approximately eight armed assailants surrounded them, discharged firearms into the air, and forcibly took them into the forest, while other patrons were able to flee.
During questioning, the arrested suspect, Abubakar Kabiru, admitted his involvement in the crime and confirmed the identities of the rescued victims. He also named seven accomplices who remain at large, prompting ongoing efforts to apprehend them.
The Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, urged residents to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement in combating crime throughout the region.
